In a frivolous response to a legitimate concern that all political parties should commit to fiscal restraint by way of the Freedom of Information Act, the Fiscal Responsibility Act, and the Integrity Commission Bill in the future instead of the tax and spend policies that have put the country on the fiscal cliff, the Chairman of the Opposition PLP says his party has 'no obligation to confirm or deny" their position.

This is the Chairman of a political party seeking to represent all Bahamians with the incredible responsibility of running the government.

The present FNM government is the only government in 10 to 15 years to voice their concern about the fiscal trajectory of the country and attempt legitimate fiscal constraints to bring deficit spending under control to make room to repay some of the massive debt load that is nearing $10 billion.

Instead of confirming the PLP's commitment to sound fiscal policy the Chairman chose to deflect attention from the subject matter with ad hominem attacks.

There appears little doubt now that the PLP really do not care about the people if they are willing to tax and spend without limit.

One can reassonably argue that the PLP of the last couple decades boils down to little more than symbolism over substance. In other words they thought it was good enough to ride on the coat tails of majority rule. They see no need for fiscal accountability and good governance.

PS. Even the Deputy Leader of the PLP suggested the PLP “protected the interest of the party over the interest of the nation” and suggested a “sincere and humble apology and repentance” to the country was in order. More here…
