Are we what we think?

Playa del CarmenLast week I had a meeting in Mexico with GM. It was my third visit so I thought it was time to see a couple of the Mayan ruins.

We stayed at Paradisus, a Melia Resort in Playa del Carmen. While the beach is nice, it can't compare to ours but the resort was nice if too big.

Thankfully I had a couple friends staying in town and they trek there about once a year so they know the place extremely well and they took me around for a couple evenings. The city of Playa del Carmen I would guess is about the size of New Providence and their 5th Street, a portion of which is shown in the image above, simply blows Bay Street away.

The variety of shops and restaurants is impressive to say the least. But what I could not stop thinking (and saying) was how clean and free of litter the main drag is. Even the outskirts were litter free – a lesson we badly need to learn.

So three cheers for Playa del Carmen. But it reinforced that maybe we are not as good we think we are.
