PLP in face saving mode against the rule of law?

image from granitegrok.comSo Mr. Brave Davis, leader of the Opposition PLP has announced a potential demonstration against Police leading a former Cabinet Minister to Court to be charged with bribery, extortion and conspiracy to commit extortion in handcuffs and shackles.

Davis is quoted as saying; “I was appalled and outraged at the way Shane Gibson, my former Cabinet colleague was, dealt with by the Police today (Thursday),”

It’s odd how he did not find this troubling for the common man or anyone else when being charged before the Court for that matter prior to this.

ShacklesBeing handcuffed and shackled seems and appears barbaric in some instances, but may very well be necessary for different crimes/criminals. Surely being charged for possession of a joint of marijuana or in the case of Gibson this is not necessary. But Mr. Davis didn’t complain about the former. However, this is the practice around the world.

Where Mr. Davis is correct though is corrupt business people should not be overlooked and neither should FNM's or other PLP's. Corruption must be stamped out.

In an attempt to save face in this manner, by calling the shackling and handcuffing of a suspect “slave shaming” shows how out of touch Mr. Davis has become in an effort to gain political points.

Instead of organizing people to march against the rule of law to save face the PLP has the ability to draft an Opposition sponsored Bill to outline when and if this form of treatment is necessary.
