I understand Mr. Myers resigned from the Chamber of Commerce after a recent incident with Bahamas Customs that was cleared up.
After a conversation with him, earlier this week, he is innocent and I hope he will release his position to the public.
That aside, his decision is the correct one as the political rhetoric from the government was obviously mounting, in spite of the mote in some of their eyes.
Obviously Mr. Myers excellent job as Chairman of the Bahamas Chamber and Tax Coalition was so effective that political victimisation and a hatchet job was the government's only defence.
For far too many years of its existence, the Chamber has forgotten their job is to represent business and not the government. It has only been in recent years the pendulum is swinging back toward true representation of the private sector.
Mr. Myers did a great job as Chairman of the Chamber and Co-Chair of the Tax Coalition as representatives of the private sector. I hope their effort continues and their members are not silenced by these events. An outcome the government would prefer I am sure.
The bar has been raised by Mr. Myers in circumstances like this and his reported action sets an example for those political hacks that refuse to put our country before their personal interests.
