Fred Mitchell on another rant in parliament about work permits

Mitchell Rants

Mitchell Rants Again. Nassau Guardian Photo

The Nassau Guardian reports that he said:

"a “tough sell” for his ministry to approve work permits for bartenders, laborers and maids at the property."

"Mitchell said the private sector must work with the government to train the labor force to take on skilled jobs instead of complaining about a skilled labor shortage."

He went on;

“And if we don’t address this issue of training they will fix their mouths to come to the Department of Immigration talking about work permits for bartenders, housekeepers and laborers in the hotel sector."

He continued;

“Get the training program going because we’re not going to have these kids sitting on the side of the street watching people working at Baha Mar and talking nuts about they’re going to get work permits for housekeepers and laborers."

Am I missing something? Is Mr. Mitchell suggesting that our school system is turning out people that need special training by the private sector to help us become housekeepers and labourers?

Well blow me down!

All this back and forth just continues to unsettle the job creators.

    Seems to me like Mitchell has a thorn stuck somewhere & he is in agony,or maybe there’s a bolt missing because a screw is far to small for his rants.

    This is little more than a smoke screen as they are finding they can’t produce 10,000 jobs out of thin air. Another campaign promise can’t be fulfilled. That is no reason to stir up negative sentiment either.

    That is what they do & I guess a lot of people don’t see it or at least the politicians don’t think they do.

    They will inevitably destroy all products of decent human initiative,
    through simple ignorance.
    Meddling in everything, knowing absolutely nothing.
    Full of self importance, bolstered by ignorance in the populace.
    Kinda like the crewman on a sailboat, the moment the capt says “JIBE” and he says “wha..”
    Mind it is endemic of Democracy isn’t it,
    to self destruct.
    Wolves and a sheep deciding on dinner…..

    Perhaps there is a much bigger issue here.. Both our political parties always seem to be thinking only in terms of their own party’s interest and their own self-interest.. The National Interest, the interest of the Bahamas as a whole, seems to be delegated to a position of almost non-relevance.. Perhaps this helps to explain the irrational judgment and behavior of so many of our elected officials where party interest takes presidency over the National Interest.. It is time for the leaders of both political parties start to think in terms of the country’s National Interest and not in terms of petty, “all for me baby” style politics..

    How does it go,
    The Chinese think in Centuries,
    Europeans and the US in Decades,
    Why is it we Bahamians can’t think past lunch?
