Has the DNA fallen off the rails?

Rick Lowe

Both major daily newspapers confirmed on Friday, (here… and here…) that the DNA, a political party, will file a writ in Court on behalf of the workers that are on the road building sites under construction by Jose Cartellones.

It seems most peculiar that a political party would file a writ in court on behalf of workers in a dispute with their employers.

Surely this is not the role of a political party even if the claims can be substantiated?

If they wish to recommend changes in the law that is to be applied equally to all Bahamians that's fine.

Should a candidate for the DNA wish to act on behalf of the workers in his private capacity, that's acceptable as well.

Maybe there is precedent for an action like this, but it seems that this is something a niche party would do. This is not a national issue where the workers do not have options for redress? They can go to the Labour Board and file a complaint and the case can move forward from there.

This seems no more than political grandstanding that would marginalise the DNA even more.

Has the DNA come off the rails in search of an issue with this one? A cheap attempt to get voter support rather than take us to another level as they keep suggesting their mission is.

Pretty dumb overall. IF they ever make a government they can give up on the chance of bids from overseas contractors. Bahamian ones will be even more wary.

    Good point Nyloc.
It’s interesting that the more they say they will raise the level of the debate and bring new ideas to the table, they grasp at populist straws.
