"The Department of Customs is not of the view that Nassau Motor Company (NMC) acted unscrupulously regarding the payment of duty on vehicles imported around the time the rates were changed by Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Hubert Ingraham during the budget communication in May.
"We didn't find that Nassau Motor Company was an unscrupulous importer or had any intent of evading their responsibility," said Comptroller of Customs Glenn Gomez in an interview with The Nassau Guardian yesterday afternoon.

I think they are drunk with power.Where is the common sense in customs, where ? If you ask ten customs officers the same question, you will get ten different answers.I just don’t understand the reasoning of customs, maybe there just isn’t any at all.They know Nassau Motor Company is a straight shooter & they know you do things by the book, why do this to a good company, by the way, that’s giving them a fortune in duty every year, all while the crooked people continue on their merry way with no problems at all.

If Fitzgerald had not politicised the thing making them feel defensive he probably would not have made those comments.
He (the Comptroller) did the right thing and cleared NMC’s name.
I’ve asked Fitzgerald to do the same in light of the Comptrollers comments that it was a Customs error and NMC did nothing wrong, but as expected he has refused.
That is the abuse of power. Using the law of libel that gives him free reign to say those things in the Senate without fear of prosecution. The law allows parliamentarian’s to carry out immoral/unjust acts with impunity.
The Kings used to do that in medieval times. I think I’ll send him a crown :0)
