Prime Minister Christie is a very nice man but last nights newscast on ZNS was quite pathetic in this blogger’s view.
Here was our PM all emotional after his visit to the Fox Hill Prison telling the Bahamian public that he did not know how bad the conditions were there.
While I’m sure his tour was revealing, Mr. Christie has been in a leadership position in this country’s government for what, 30 years now? He has been a Member of Parliament, Cabinet Minister, Leader of the Official Opposition and now Prime Minister, so to suggest at this late date that the did not know what the conditions were at the prison seems most peculiar.
I would venture to say there are very few Bahamians that are not aware of the deloprable conditions at the Fox Hill Prison. In fact, most of the world knows by now.
If that was an attempt to get votes yesterday, it was quite unsophisticated.

However, truth be told, I like PM Christie. I did not see the broadcast you reference. But if he expressed himself as you describe, he not only made a fool of himself, but would seem to take all Bahamians for fools.
After all, as you indicate, the decrepit conditions in which our prisoners are caged were exposed to the world months ago by media reports on the political dithering over those detained Cuban doctors.

Perhaps next week someone can take our PM on a tour of the Lynden Pindling airport where he can be horrified because the escalator doesn’t work, the rest rooms are disgusting and the baggage carousels do not work.
The following week he can try driving through our every-hour-of-the-day heavy traffic and he can be shocked at that. It might prompt him to request more foreign consultants AGAIN.
The week after that he can take a tour of the schools and learn that the average graduating grade is D.
Then he can take a tour of the Rand, PMH and Sandilands.
We can see that he is pained and horrified for weeks to come.
What really is painful is to think that there are some people who still believe this nonsense.
