Why do so many of our political characters get so agitated when we, the members of the electorate, question, suggest or otherwise present a differing view to that they espouse?

To add to that question, why have we seemingly lost the ability to discuss, build and develop ideas based on the cumulative efforts of a group?

I have seen arguements where the two or three “combatants” have in effect said exactly the same thing, but because none were listening all assumed that all views were differing.

Discussion becomes difficult if not impossible if we do not share some basic reference points in common, and this leads me to a blunt statement.

Conventional wisdom, or the basic understandings that have enabled societal development over the ages are disappearing.

Take our laws for example.

I believe that 90 percent of our population assume they know the law of the land with regard to various rights or obligations but in fact are acting on heresay and assumption, intentionally and unwittingly skewed by our political/societal leadership.

Part of this is I believe because we see what they our leadership do and how they act and whether or not we were taught the “ropes” of society by by our elders or not we morph our understanding of the law and right procedure and follow suit.

Our laws of the land and system of governance have taken a couple of thousand years to develop into the state of existence of today but we seem to be willing to let a couple generations of politicians or bad leadership destroy the very system that should enable us and protect us as individuals.

In any case for all of humanities collective and acumulative intelligence we are individually becoming rather ignorant of the basic tennets of our society’s history and success.

And that spells trouble.
