Interested in events surrounding the surprise announcement in Cuba that Fidel Castro has “temporarily” handed the reins of power over to his 75 year old brother Raul as a result of emergency surgery?
Click here to read the Times Online News Log about it.
Could it be that our Foreign Minister is making arrangements for another visit to Cuba to show support for his new friend Fidel?
Rick
Never mind what the Times Online has to say, what do you think about Miami Cubans dancing on Fidel Castro’s grave so prematurely?
What implications (for these Mambo dancers) do you think his eventual death portends or gives hope to?
Do you think the US embargo against Cuba – supported with such zealousness by Miami Cubans – has been an effective foreign policy? And, do you think it should remain in place even after Castro’s death?
Thanks Anthony:
I think the dancers are a bit over the top, but who knows what we would do if we were in their position. Castro has not been an angel.
Here is something I wrote on the what Castro’s death portends some time back: http://www.nassauinstitute.org/wmview.php?ArtID=138
I remain ambivilent on the future of Cuba, other than the fact that I believe the Cuban people deserve better than they have been getting.
With regard to the embargo – History proves they do not accomplish their aim. I also believe trade would have brought change to Cuba a long time ago.
