It appears that attempts are being made in recent weeks to keep the verges and streets cleaner. This is obviously a monumental task when so many of us simply discard trash at will, so this blogger applauds the government for making a better effort.
However, the same can’t be said for the old Customs Shed on Arawak Cay. This eyesore, shown in the photo here is an accident waiting to happen.
Beside that however is the fact that this rusting, tangled mass is what cruise ship visitors are greeted with on their way into the Nassau harbour.
Of course there are laws that our "magnanimous" politicians have placed on the books to ensure that private citizen’s remove or repair their buildings that have fallen into a state of disrepair but, this rule does not appear to apply to the government itself.
I call this phenomenon Lowe’s Law: Politician’s spend their careers making laws to keep everyone else accountable and make the average citizen and business play "fair", yet, they refuse to hold themselves to the same standards.
Let’s hope something will be done in the near future about the ugly spectre once known as the Customs Shed.
