Who’s in charge?

by Sidney Sweeting, DDS

My wife and I decided to spend two days in Ft. Lauderdale this past weekend

We took the early flight so we had to be at the airport by 5:30 am. Because of the early hour we decided we would skip breakfast at home and just get some yogurt and milk at the snack bar to keep the hunger pangs at bay until we could find a healthy breakfast at the hotel. They not only did not have yogurt or milk, they did not even have their usual offering of artery-clogging greasy sausages and corn beef and hash (do tourists really eat that stuff?). In answer to my complaint the cashier sarcastically suggested that I have a beer.

This was after, along with everyone else, we had to drag our suitcases up the stairs as the escalator was not working. We figured that was the designated non-working item for that day.

Before the flight was called we decided to visit the rest rooms. We wondered which was worse, the trash or the disgusting odor.

There was a well written letter in the Tribune last week of a traveller’s unfortunate experience in the parking lot. It was so congested she could not move her car.

On the flight I began to wonder: If I were a tourist, would I return?

So, is there anyone in charge?
