In recent years both governments have been proud to tell the country how much they consult with other groups when writing new legislation.
However, they don’t tell you that they tend to reject 90% of the recommendations of those that take the time and effort to respond.
In other countries this is called smoke and mirrors. Here it is called symbolism over substance.
When governments do not consider these points of view the unintended consequences of the legislation are usually worse than if they took some advice.
However, if they took the advice, they might look like they are not the sum total of all intelligence in the country though would they?
