Wondering around the Bahamas National Trust today the hot topic was the political conventions held over the last two weeks by the FNM and PLP.
Most people agreed that very little of substance was said at either convention, but a large majority of people (both black and white) expressed regret at the out right racism displayed by some of the PLP speakers and commentators.
There is nothing new about this of course, but it does signal that the PLP has either accomplished very little over the past three and half years or they are bereft of ideas. After all, they are the government and as such control the daily agenda of the country.
If one is inclined to cut a little slack for the FNM, it is still discouraging that they did not seek to review the specific things the government has left undone during their tenure.
Conventions are the logical place for the government to spell out policy initiatives, and for the opposition to outline disagreement on particular policies and advise what they would do in the circumstances.
Is this asking too much?
