Utility Unions

UtilitiesSir,

It is noticeable that the workers at our two major utilities; water and electricity, seem to have a knack for picking the wrong leader of their respective unions; we have Dwayne Woods at Water and Sewerage who apparently encouraged workers to withdraw their labour in support of an employee who blatantly broke corporate rules and now we have Paul Maynard at Bahamas Power and Light saying BPL should not be spending money to improve their power generation facilities but pay it to the workers and let the consumer save money by buying more fluorescent bulbs! Surely Maynard is a qualified electrical engineer but, apparently, does not know that there is a far better and safer l.e.d. light bulb, which has been available for many years – safer in that the fluorescent bulb contains mercury gas which is released when broken and is dangerous if inhaled and the l.e.d. bulb is much cheaper to use, although, admittedly, costs a few more cents to buy.

Just letting the people know,

H Armbrister
