The February issue of Imprimis, a publication of Hillsdale College, entitled Shall Ẇe Defend Our Common History by Roger Kimball raises some interesting questions about "…the new Orwellian world where censorship is free speech and we respect the past by attempting to elide it."
Kimball addresses the monument controversy and the covering of Columbus murals at Note Dame and more.
A takeaway?
"So here we are. The old idea of tolerance was summed up in such chestnuts as, “I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.” The new dispensation is: “I disapprove of what you say, therefore you may not say it.”"
Having read it and found it thought provoking I shared it with a chat group I'm in and a response was the following TED Salon: Brightline Initiative talk by Teresa Bejan entitled Is civility a sham?
Hope you can read the article and watch the speech.
