Sorry to say, but the police squandered a road safety moment on TV recently.

Watching the news we saw a woman motorcycle police sergeant on Prince Charles Drive humming and haring about what the amber traffic light does or doesn’t mean.

I will quote what my driving test examiner asked me … err … a few years ago! “Sir, in the traffic light sequence what does the amber light mean – I will give you a clue – it’s a one word answer!”

Of course the word he wanted was STOP!

The only light that means you, the driver, can move is green.

Perhaps some police officers could do with a little brush-up on basic traffic signs?
