Dear Editor,

I have just ploughed my way through Mr. Dupuch’s latest communication and have to wonder if this is some new black comedy script. I’m sorry but how else can we take this when he appears to be comparing the local grocery store with a numbers house? I’m quite sure with the years of experience he has behind him he has certainly heard of the idea of a “sin” tax, as taxes charged on alcohol and tobacco products; surely the gambling industry is way above those two in the sinning department!

To his other assertion, being subservient to foreign owned entities, is also clap-trap; there is nothing wrong with being polite to the foreign investor, from whom we are already taking good fees and taxes, in one form or another, and, as I’m sure Mr. Dupuch is aware, it is illegal for a Bahamian citizen or resident to gamble in those casinos, therefore any income from the casinos are foreign exchange earnings for this country, not to mention also good employers for we Bahamians.

It would also appear that Mr. Dupuch considers Exumians are second-class citizens and do not deserve a hospital … ohh, no, sorry he thinks we are kowtowing to the “yes sir boss” rich foreigner and his expensive yacht who might require medical attention while vacationing in our fair islands.
