Yesterday The Minister of Finance presented the Government's draft Fiscal Responsibility Bill for public review and "consultation".
This is a bold and important step toward getting the country's fiscal house in order and responds to calls from the public for decades.
At first read the only major item that stands out for me is contingent liabilities, i.e. monies owed by public corporations etc and public pension liabilities are not included. Maybe there is some logic for that and I hope the Minister or the Financial Secretary (Mr. Marlon Johnson) speak to that.
This coupled with a realistic Freedom of Information Act and Anti Corruption legislation will begin to right the ship of state for future generations.
Congratulations Messrs Turnquest and Johnson!
