As I sit in contemplation of life and its joys and perplexities and as I reflect on an exchange that I had with a senior government official, I am beginning to see very clearly why The Bahamas is in the malaize in which it finds itself. It is called subjectivity. It has become patently clear to me that many of those who occupy the position of advisors to those who are in the Executive Branch of Government lack the necessary subjectivity and courage to say what needs to be said.

The truth of the matter is that while the members of the Executive, who straddles the political directorate tends to make most decisions in based winning the next election, those who occupy advisory positions (senior public officers and policy advisors) must have broader vision for The Bahamas.

Therefore the advice, counsel, and guidance that influence good sound policy must be reflective of what is good for The Bahamas and not the political fortunes of the Executive Branch of Government.

What I find amazing is that we cannot move beyond past blames and self vindication so that collective and effective solutions are found for clear and present dangers that threatens the very core of our existence as a people and a nation.

Therefore those who serve as advisors and counsellors must use their influence guide the Executive away from blame game. There must be a recognition that no two days are exactly the same even if they are called the same name. Not all Mondays are sunny so is it with different eras.

The circumstances that encounter changes are varied and so does political savvy and will. The question is ' What is most important right now?' The ship cannot sail on yesterday's wind.

The future future future of The Bahamas' Ship of State is hanging in the balance. All hands MUST be and ARE needed on deck.
