PLP leader on the economy & job creation

BloatedgovernmentMr. Davis says; “I have difficulty in coming to a conclusion that this government understands the fundamentals of our economy,”

Followed by this statement: “The reason why I have difficulty with that is if you continue, as a government, to fire, not hire, but keep letting people go unceremoniously in the thousands then how does that stimulate the economy?"

Yet upon deeper analysis the only conclusion to be drawn is the opposition leader does not understand the economy nor how jobs are created.

Politicians cannot continue to use the government as an employment agency making the financial weight of the civil service unbearable on the rest of the taxpayers.

To borrow a phrase, it is an "insidious notion that government job creation generates an increase in employment" or grows the economy.

Of course we need government employees for those vital functions like Police and Courts but it's a fallacy that Government jobs reduce unemployment or creates jobs.

Jobs are created in the private sector but this does not happen with more bloated government requiring more taxes and burdening business and taxpayers alike with unnecessary regulations.

Until many in the political class understand this nothing much will change except the economy and job losses could worsen.
