How’s the sponging industry doing?

SpongesBack in December 2016, Ms. Xian Smith wrote an article in The Nassau Guardian about the IDB’s Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF) and the Bahamas Government forming a partnership to boost economic growth and generate economic benefits from the sponge industry in Andros. Read more here…

The sponge industry has had a long history of ups and downs in The Bahamas as this CS Monitor article point out.

While these programs are carried out with best of intentions, this one for an estimated $1.11 million, there is seldom any analysis circulated after implementation.

In this case, was the sponging industry “revitalized” as predicted? What went right? What went wrong?

I suspect we’ll never know.
