One gets the sense The Bahamas is at a very serious turning point this election.

Oh I know we hear that most elections from all the political parties, but this time it feels different.

It could be all the taxpayer dollars that are missing from various government departments.

It could be no accounting for the $1.5 Billion VAT taken so far.

It could be the arrogance of some of our elected officials.

It could be concern about the deficits and debt.

It could be the willingness of the Prime minister to allow conflicts of interest.

It could be the irregularities of the advance poll on Wednesday past.

Or it just might be a combination of all those and more.

However at every crossroad there is a choice and the country should be guided by the Prime Minister’s response to the possibility of a botched voters register.

If he treats this with his usual casual response to serious breeches we could slide into the abyss of election violence.

If he faces it with determination to protect our democracy, even if that means the possibility of losing the election he will be a statesman for a change and we might avoid the precipitous fall most people fear.

What will it be Mr. Prime Minister? The abyss or not?
