I hope this is the final nail on the coffin. I am referring to our Prime Minister’s gesture (the “Honourable” Perry G Christie) while reacting to allegations circulating that he owns a condominium that was obtained through political malfeasance. The PM “flips the bird” as the Nassau Guardian stated, showing a fabulous photo of this gesture, while the Tribune referenced that the PM “stuck up his middle finger” to the audience at last night’s community meeting in Fox Hill.
Is this proper behavior coming from the Chief Executive of our great nation, who holds one of the highest positions in the land? Is this how he sets an example for others to follow and emulate? Is this how he shows support and compassion for those that he is supposed to respect, help and unite with? What happened to the right of free speech? Even if the allegations are untrue, a person of his stature should never demean his people with such a derogatory and pejorative act.
Our PM was last night quoted as saying “You’re talking about lies and distortion. Well, get used to it because they have no capacity to govern. They cannot govern”. Well, this statement is probably very true. So I have to ask, what about all the lies, distortion and broken promises that were made by the PLP and our Prime Minister over the past almost five years?
It is frightening and too long to document in this letter what lies and distortion emanated from the current government. I will make reference to only several of the more glaring lies coming from the ruling party. Where are the newly created jobs that were boasted to number 32,000? What happened to the NHI initiative, whose roll out was delayed time and time again? What about the forever delayed Baha Mar resort opening? And who (for real) currently owns this facility that is dragging this nation down. Where are all the Bahamian workers on The Pointe and Baha Mar? If the national debt continues to rise, as has just been indicated by the Central Bank of The Bahamas’ January 2017 economic report, where is the VAT money going and why not curb spending and clean up waste and the rampant corruption to get the deficit under control? Last, but of course not least I will mention the rising crime that is devastating this country. While accusing the FNM of escalating crime (particularly murders) leading up to the 2012 election, the PLP promised they had the solution to this raging issue. Please tell me what programmes were implemented and how they resulted in improving this critical and highly sensitive matter that urgently needed addressing! Why is the Minister of National Security saying after over 4-1/2 years in office that he now has the solution to this vexing problem that affects us all? Why didn’t this solution come out in May of 2012?
So, I wonder, who is the one promoting lies and distortion. As the PM said, “they have no capacity. They can not govern”. Thank you for sharing this with us. I hope you heed your own words Mr. PM.
A picture is worth a thousand words and I think your gesture at the Fox Hill community meeting says it all!
Signed,
BT
