In light of the "Spoil Your Ballot" initiative I'm re-reading Sy Leon's None Of The Above: Why Non-Voters Are America's Political Majority.

Here's an interesting quote I had forgotten:

Leon's Law Of Governance

The amount of government control will always increase to the level of toleration of the people.
An extremely tolerant people will suffer a dictatorship.
A moderately tolerant public will condone a democracy.
An intolerant society will be free.

But back to “Spoil Your Ballot”.

In a nutshell, the idea is to add None Of The Above to the ballot along with the candidates names, and the more I re-read, the more I like the possibility because the number of votes cast for None Of The Above will have to be reported.

Imagine Candidate A gets 20% of the votes cast and Candidate B obtains 17% while None Of The Above receives 63% of the votes cast. Wouldn’t that be a marvelous message to send?
