There has been so much joy emanating from various Ministry of Finance bosses that the Very Awful Tax has raised about $1 billion since installation, unfortunately we, of course, are not being told the whole truth.

This has been mentioned in the past but no-body from the Ministry has been so honest; VAT and Income Tax are the two most complex and expensive taxes to administer and collect, in fact it is generally accepted that the first two years of VAT collections will show no net income to government funding, as any income will have to be used to pay for the administration costs of VAT.

Now we are told how much has been collected so far, but just recently we are further advised that very little of these funds are actual new VAT funds but rather the majority is re-named taxes such as real property tax. Perhaps the Freedom of Information Act is seriously overdue.
