BPL. The tip of the iceberg?

image from flamesnation.caThe Bahamas Power & Light revelations point us toward a more fundamental problem with the government.

We can sum it up in a word: Neglect.

But we must not forget it is more important to most politicians that The Bahamas appear to be something we are not.

We should have a stadium that we cannot properly maintain.

We must have a new multi million dollar baseball stadium that we cannot properly maintain.

We must jet set like there is no limitation to the government travel budget.

In other words, why bother with maintenance and repairs to important infrastructure that will eat away at our ability to play rich around the world?

One does not have to look very far to confirm this is the approach to the management style of the government of The Bahamas. Just look at government buildings. Style in this case is not complimentary.

But it's easier to neglect taking proper care of the country's infrastructure today than to give up some of the perks and symbolism.

BPL is just the tip of the iceberg. Each day the toll of neglect is ringing louder.
