Politicians want to reserve the right to piss on the electorate

PoliticsPardon the language, but yesterday's news article by Ms. Candia Dames (read it here…) makes me sick to my stomach.

Seems the PLP, with the Constitution of 1973, deliberately wanted to restrict the power of Parliamentarian's when they did not "save" the Parliamantary Priviledges Act of 1969 under Article 30. More here…

For Parliamentarian's to now complain that they should have the right to speak freely in Parliament while infringing on the rights of citizens is tantamount to pissing on the electorate and telling them it's raining.

In addition, to suggest the Constitution grants Parliament the authority to create rules for the conduct of members under Article 53, that infringe on the rights of the electorate cannot be taken seriously. Parliaments were created to protect the rights of individuals from the power of the King, not vice versa.

Seems Ambrose Bierce was correct that politics is "A strife of interests masquerading as a contest of principles". And this Parliament is making a mockery of their role in protecting democracy and the electorate in my not so humble opinion.
