One has to wonder if our Prime Minister, Mr. Perry Gladstone Christie, has been watching what has been happening across “the Pond:”

A referendum in Scotland, proposed by Mr. Alex Salmond, Scotland’s First Minister, to determine if the Scots wanted independence from the United Kingdom; the Scots rejected it –Mr. Salmond immediately resigned;

A referendum in the United Kingdom, proposed by Mr. David Cameron, UK Prime Minister, to determine if the United Kingdom wished to remain in the European Union, the Brits rejected it – Mr. Cameron immediately resigned.

Much closer to home, here in Nassau, a referendum was proposed in the Bahamas by Mr. Hubert Ingraham, Bahamas Prime Minister, to determine if there should be full equality for the Bahamian female, the Bahamians rejected it, Mr. Ingraham did not immediately resign but, instead, called for the scheduled General Election, which he lost and then immediately resigned from politics.

The above mentioned Mr. Perry Gladstone Christie proposed a referendum to determine if the Bahamas wished to legalise the Bahamian domestic gambling industry; the people said “No.” Mr. Christie announced that exercise was merely an opinion poll and went ahead with the legalisation anyway. Then Mr. Perry Gladstone Christie proposed another referendum to, again, grant full equality to the Bahamian female, the Bahamians rejected it again; almost a month later Mr. Christie is still wondering what happened and, of course, has NOT resigned … !
