Okay, enough is enough with this dam’d referendum. I am sick and tired of this continual bickering. The same-sex marriage argument was purely and simply a red herring dragged across the event. As I mentioned in my last post here it was terribly noticeable that the Vote No/Save the Bahamas campaign was almost entirely male, with a few women brought in, it seemed, as an afterthought, to make it look legitimate.
This referendum was solely to ensure that, constitutionally, Men and Women are treated equally in all matters; how on earth that can be interpreted to mean two men can marry is beyond comprehension. This one person is, therefore, left to wonder why so many Bahamian men wanted to deny Bahamian women their equal rights?
Perhaps it is time that this homophobic society opened its eyes and ears and realized that, as has been suggested, homo-sexuality is a “disease of civilization” it is incurable, it cannot be “turned on and off” at will, so, my Bahamian brothers and sisters, these people are here to stay whether we like it or not.
There is one matter, however, where I am in agreement, the word “marriage;” two men cannot marry, likewise two women cannot marry; marriage, so my trusty dictionary states, is “the legal union or contract made by a man and woman to live as husband and wife” and to confirm the point my Bible also has a similar definition!
Therefore I would suggest that just as a hetero-sexual couple will apply for a Marriage Licence then the homo-sexual couple would apply for a “Civil Union Licence,” both licences to offer the same social and legal benefits.
