One has to wonder if Mr. Paul Major, Chairman of the Junkanoo Festival Commission, has had an epiphany. Recently, on the evening news I heard the said Mr. Major waxing lyrical that next year the Festival will showcase Bahamian Culture …. ?!

Very sorry Mr. Major but last year, 2015 and this year, 2016 the Festival was supposed to showcase Bahamian Culture. When Prime Minister, Perry Christie introduced his idea in the House back in 2012 he stated that he wanted to see the Bahamian Junkanoo experience spread throughout the year and not just at Christmas and the New Year. Most Bahamians have been wondering, ever since, how this alien and unwanted carnival ever got to be introduced in the first place.

Get it right, for once, Mr. Major, try Bahamian Junkanoo in the Bahamas, and the tourists will flock to see OUR Cultural heritage, not some bad copy of a foreign culture
