Weighing in on the US Department of State 2015 Human Rights Report on The Bahamas, Sir Franklyn tacitly supports corruption and Human Rights abuses here at home saying, the US does not have clean hands.
The report, found here… outlines the less than ideal conditions at Fox Hill Prison where "Overcrowding, poor sanitation, and inadequate access to medical care remained" and "meals were often served in unsanitary buckets. A few cells lacked running water, and in those cells, inmates removed human waste by bucket."
What about the "Royal Bahamas Defense Force (BDF) marines who in 2013 allegedly beat five Cuban detainees with batons and pipes at the CRDC. The government reported only that the case was still “before the courts.”
The report goes on to state many more abuses, some regarding irregular immigrants, issues with the courts and much, much more, but it also points out where improvements have been made.
To imply The Bahamas should do nothing about corruption or the violation of basic human rights because corruption exists in the country making the claims against The Bahamas is nothing but hyperbole.
Corruption and lack of human rights degrades the entire population and adds yet another barrier to individual and national success.
This puffed up nationalism exhibited by Sir Franklyn lends unspoken support to human rights abuses and corruption and is a sad day for The Bahamas.
