We received the following note from a distressed beach visitor.
It's an embarrassing indictment of us.
“Is there some kind of movement locally to promote clean beaches, pride in this beautiful country. I hope you will post the following to appeal to those being so destructive not only to the environment, but also to the tourism industry and the pure enjoyment of others to enjoy the local beaches.
"Sandyport Beach, a popular place for parties. Sadly, those who use it for these purposes, often leave the beach in such a state that it needs a major clean up crew to bring it back to it's natural state.
"These photos were taken today Monday, April 18, 2016), showing just one end of the beach and the trash that was left from last night's gathering. Unfortunately, this is not even the worst that we have seen it.
"Not only is this a very unpleasant experience to see as we go to see this beautiful beach, it's attracting rats. There's broken glass that children can hurt themselves on. I've seen bottles being thrown at the rocks, condoms, dirty diapers, food, many bottles and cans, even needles.
"Those people that leave all this trash behind, who is it that you think is going to clean up after you? Why do you think it is okay to spoil the beach for the people that are going to come and visit after you? Wouldn't YOU like to come to a nice clean beach?
"We have previously hired someone to clean this end of the beach….60 big trash bags were collected. There was so much trash, we could have collected another 60 bags if we'd gone further down the beach towards Poop Deck.
"Does anyone else feel the same way about this situation???"
