The Cost of Government

image from www.foundry.orgThe latest Quarterly Statistical Digest, November 2015 from The Central Bank of The Bahamas (released December 31, 2015), pegs the National Debt at an astounding $6.5 Billion.

Of course many in the political class attempt to ignore the consequences of this, but Canada's Fraser Institute has released a timely study entitled "The Cost of Government Debt in Canada, 2016."

Here's a brief quote from the executive summary:

"Debt accumulation has costs. One major consequence is that governments must make interest payments on their debt similar to households that pay interest on borrowing related to mortgages, vehicles, or credit card spending. Spending on interest payments consumes government revenues and leaves less money available for other important priorities such as spending on health care and education or tax relief." – See more here…

The cost of The Bahamas Government is equally undesirable.
