Professor William Anderson recently pointed an excellent opinion piece by William McGurn about Baltimore that goes to the core of the problem facing that city. Welfare.
The article compares the predominantly white Martin County in Kentucky where President Lynden Johnson launched America's war on poverty to the mostly black urban Baltimore.
It's incredible how such vast differences produce the same results because of the welfare state.
While President Obama is correct that America needs to do some soul searching, I agree with the writer that the question to be considered is how to get people off welfare, not provide more of the same failed policies.
