There was something for everybody at the 28th Annual Antique Auto Show & Cook-Out at Arawak Cay on a beautiful Sunny Saturday at Arawak Cay organized by the Antique Auto Club of The Bahamas.  For those seeking food there were Steak and Chicken dinners from the grille plus Hamburgers & Hot Dogs from the Rotary Club of East Nassau’s well known Hamburger Van. For those with “sweet tooths”, the Kiwanis K-Kids Club were on hand selling desserts and Rotary’s Interact Club provided Ice Cream.

Activities for the children included a Bouncy Castle and Miniature car rides at no cost. On sale was a large variety of model cars, fire extinguishers, T-Shirts and even a few paintings. Asa H. Pritchard also had various Auto Accessories at their booth. In addition, a raffle was going on throughout the day with various prizes and a Grand Prize of a Flat Screen TV.

Then, of course, was the main attraction, The Cars: 65 cars and trucks were on display, with vintage vehicles ranging from 1939 to 1995 (The Antique Auto Club adopted its local definition of “Antique” as 20 years old). For the Drag Racing fans a new class of “Fast & Furious” was added this year and members of the Bahamas Hot Rod Association (BHRA) were happy to display some of their vehicles. To cap off the entertainment, members of the Valley Boys provided a Junkanoo Rush for the crowd right before the announcing the winners. The vehicles were judged in nine different classes and trophies awarded. Full details of the winners appear below.

The Show continued to be well supported by the Business Community. Club President Don Pinder stated “We want to graciously thank our sponsors for their generosity as well as our six volunteer judges and other volunteers donating their time to help with the gate and food serving. Without these companies and individuals, we would not be able to continue putting on a show of this magnitude. Special thanks too to the Kiwanis Club of Cable Beach and the Rotary Club of east Nassau for their continued support.”  Show Chairman, Wilfred Rolle added “Proceeds raised from the Show, as usual, go to a Charity involving underprivileged children and will be used towards purchasing some much needed appliances for the Old Bight Mission Home in Cat Island.”

The Antique Auto Club of the Bahamas was formed in 1987 by six men interested in the restoration and preservation of vintage and special interest vehicles. The Club now has a membership of 72 men and women.
