It has been a few weeks now since the announcement of a Trust to own the majority 2% of Bahamas Telecommunications Company Limited, on behalf of the Bahamian people.
It is also a like time since we saw the rather unprofessional whining by a Director of Digicel that Skype had an unfair advantage in its provision of long-distance telephone services!
With the above being said, I turn to the question of the very valuable second licence to provide cellular telephone services in the Bahamas.
Can we now look forward to our Prime Minister supporting his own Bahamian telecommunications companies – BTC and Cable Bahamas – against a foreign interloper, the same Digicel. A company, not too long ago, Mr. Christie was singing the praises of, and before Mr. Franklyn Wilson had “negotiated” the afore-mentioned Trust deal thereby returning BTC to majority Bahamian ownership.
It might prove a tad “tacky,” therefore, if the Prime Minister of the Bahamas was to be seen actively supporting a foreign company, already well-known for its business dealings causing a substantial loss of business and major job redundancies in at least one other jurisdiction.
Yours, forever in hope
