King Eric And His Knights – Song of the week – June 9, 2014 – Hot Nuts

King Eric And His KnightsMy wife stumbled across a 45rpm record of King Eric And His Knights a couple weeks back. And what fun.

The band members at that time were King Eric Gibson, Frankie Adams, Paul Hanna and Arthel — (Forgive me I don't know his last name nor do I know the date the record was released. If anyone knows, please help).

My earliest memories of King Eric And His Knights was when they played at my sisters wedding in the original British Colonial Hotel, and after that was when we visited home on holiday while living in Toronto. When we came hom on holiday we go to see them at the King and Knights Club.

We even saw them in Toronto in the early to mid 1970's at Ontario Place and another time at the Hook & Ladder Club in the Beverly Hills Seaway Motor Hotel. By then the band consisted of King Eric on guitar, John Gibson on bass and saxophone, Jim Duncombe drums and vocals, Frankie Adams vocals, and Stuart Halbert keyboards.

King Eric passed away as did a couple of the other members, but if you're lucky you might see Stuart Halbert in one of the local night clubs every now and then, playing keyboards and singing in Tommy Goodwin's Last Quarter Band.

Rearranging can bring back some fond memories. I'm so glad my wife found this little piece of Bahamian cultural history.

By the way, the photo (top left), is the jacket cover.

Hope you enjoy Hot Nuts from the 45. Be warned it's a little risqué.
