Why have Messrs. Bradley Roberts and Franklyn Wilson suddenly resurrected that dead issue of BTC and C&W? Firstly, it is not possible to put a positive spin on what this Government achieved (sic) with their so-called negotiations but, secondly I, for one, have to wonder why this “two-barrelled” approach is being made, might this be a “smoke-screen” to deflect people’s attention to other potential issues concerning privatisations of public enterprises such as BEC and, I hear, Water and Sewerage?
Let me revert a moment to that sale of part of BTC to Cable and Wireless. At least C&W was a very well-known, respected, British name in the telecommunications industry and in particular in the Caribbean area, unlike another British company called Bluewater that practically nobody had, or still has, ever heard of. This company suddenly materialising out of the woodwork to become BTC’s saviour, and paying more than the company was worth for less than a controlling interest in the company.
Who was and is Bluewater and what was their connection to the Bahamas?
