Production of VAT video documentary in the works

image from www.hmslocksmiths.co.ukTravolta Cooper (Y-Feye Media) and Todd McFerren (Hammerheads Bar & Grill) are trying to raise funds to produce a documentary on Value Added Tax (VAT).

They are circulating a proposed outline of what the video will focus on including:

What is the IMF?
How did The BAhamas get itself into this financial predicament?
What is VAT?
What are the governments financial projections of VAT and how realistic are those projections?
What do other groups/economists think the projections are?
What is the stance of the political groupings (PLP, FNM, DNA)?
History of VAT and its performance in other countries
What are some of the "cons" associated with VAT?
What powers will the new government agency have to collect and enforce VAT?
Who and what are the concerns of present organisations combating the introduction of VAT?
What are the alternative solutions?

Here's a brief from Travolta Cooper:

DSC_8939 - Version 2"I'm instantly attracted to a film on VAT because this issue is really the fruit on the tree of a much bigger economic issue in The Bahamas. I first met Todd McFerren while working on a show for Hammerheads. Since then a dialogue DSC_8940 - Version 2has blossomed about VAT and he feels just as passionate as I do that it must be stopped. The Government just announced that they are hoping to have the legislation passed by late February. The clock is ticking. Help us tell this story."

Please call Hammerheads Bar & Grill to help.

By the way, Travolta Cooper and Y-Feye media produced the two films, Founding Fathers: Sir Stafford Sands and the upcoming The Black Moses, so this should be good.

  1. Tradewinds's avatar Tradewinds says:

A terrific idea of which we all must support.. Tyranny, corruption and political cronyism has taken our country to the brink of economic collapse.. VAT is the final nail in our nation’s coffin.. Increased taxation is not the answer as it only creates greater poverty, skyrocketing inflation and destroys private sector investment the real driving force for growth and employment.. Stagflation will be the result of our VAT lead failing economy..
We can as a nation grow our way out of the economic mess we find ourselves in, but government can not spend its way out of this pending disaster that is before us.. Out-of-control, successive governments has caused this fiscal problem and increased government spending never is and has never been a viable answer.. Government imposed VAT, a distorted tax and spend policy, will be the driving force of our accelerating decline and economic failure.. We must “Stop VAT Now” and change the direction of the Bahamian economy towards increasing economic growth..
There can be no real economic growth without private sector investment and increasing government fees and taxes, wasteful regulations and bureaucratic corruption are disincentives for investment.. Soon government imposed VAT will become a new driving force retarding private sector investment.. As a direct consequence of this Very Awful Tax policy, economic stagnation and higher unemployment will be the result.. VAT has never worked to raised hoped for revenues, has caused massive human misery and poverty and destroys private sector investment and growth.. VAT is not the answer for the Bahamas.. We must rise up, all of us, and “Stop VAT Now”.. The production and distribution of an Anti-VAT video deserves the support of all freedom loving Bahamians to stop this pending economic madness.. We must act now as time is not on our side..
