So called progressives (socialists) argue that companies operating in third world countries are despicable – they call them "sweat shops" – yet they see nothing wrong with the remaining dictatorships in the region in particular and around the world.
It is a double standard that is now being employed to great effect by the political class of most descriptions.
When, as the image posits, Governor Christie's act is despicable (which it is), yet Mr. Obama's "mistakes" are excused.
The same applies to the Conservatives and many of Mr. George W. Bush's faux pas as well of course. Not that Mr. Bush is one of my favourites either.
We see it locally with the PLP, FNM and the DNA now too.
Somehow, in most of the matters that count, we need to move past the politics to finding the correct public policy. As I've heard Alex Chafuen of the Atlas Network say, "public policies should not be right or left, but what is right or wrong."
So many political groups now seem to be following the propaganda methods of the "progressives" that meaningful discussion and sensible public policy selection now seems beyond reach.
I'm not sure learning these habits from progressives is a good thing. What's your take?
Progressive indoctrination in both education and the governing process has brought the United States almost to the point of totalitarian rule.. Core Curriculum is the final step in the control of education based on indoctrination, political correctness and not the sacred values of freedom of individual thought.. Rule by Executive Order is an abuse of presidential power.. It is destroying the constitutional foundation of the country as a creeping tyranny is choking out individual freedom and liberties.. The more power that government expropriates, the less freedom the people have as a result.. The fundamental rights guaranteed by the Bill of Rights to the American people have been debased by government for a false sense of nonexistence security and an encroachment and take over of political power..
What is frightening for us Bahamians is that the same consolidation of absolute control and power by government is destroying our own foundation as a freedom loving people.. Tragically we don’t even know it or even understand what happening to us.. We better realize that once freedom is lost it is almost impossible to ever gain or win back.. Wake up Bahamas, the warning signs are there and time is running out as our freedoms are becoming eroded by political encroachment.. ..

Not sure where you are going and perhaps you don’t even know yourself.. Are you describing multinational corporations investing overseas or national domestic corporations that produce for export markets.. Hard core Social Progressives don’t like either types of enterprise but do seem to favor State control and ownership of the means of production..
Multinational corporations on the whole are usually good citizens and contribute to the host country’s economic and social development despite periodic squabbling by left-wing and labor organizations.. The corporations that have left the Bahamas departed our shores mostly because excessive costs and fees, over regulation and corruption.. In the latter case of overseas domestic corporations, many are run like, as you say, sweat shops using cheap labor, exchange manipulation, excessive tariff protection and lax regulations to undercut any possible international competition.. At once China comes to mind which has used its massive foreign exchange earnings over the last twenty-five to create an international economic and financial powerhouse..
Little is ever said or even heard from the left-wing, radical socialists and progressives when it come to criticizing the inherent evils within the totalitarian governance of China.. Just this past year China has become a military threat to its neighbors Japan, Korea, Taiwan, the Philippines and the countries of Southeast Asia over territorial issues.. Care should be carefully undertaken as their economic beachhead is rapidly expanding in the Bahamas.. One must ask where is the outcry from either the left or right which is silent as usual on such politically sensitive issues..
As for our long term friend, the United States and the Obama/Kerry State Department, they have been noticeably absent from the table of Caribbean and Bahamian diplomacy and political discussion.. Embassy vacancies now appear to be a policy of what may be described as benign neglect.. There is no other way to rationally explain their absence..
