We’ll all be tax collectors soon…

Perhaps the truth in this is self evident:
The private sector will always run circles around Government Bureaucracy, and will adjust as they can.
But the Gun to the head does create animosity, perhaps a counter to the typical government Animosity displayed towards capable people and ideas.
We have created an environment in which the best and brightest, the innovators and Entrepreneurs,
Have left, or switched off.
Maybe some of those who remained, or returned, for their own reasons,
are contemplating following those who left.
Again, masters of unintended consequences, running amok.
Government tax collectors do not have their civil rights removed nor imprisoned for not collecting their due. Whereas the private sector pseudo collectors are.
This aspect of their VAT system is being ignored, but is more than onerous.
I note the government of New Zealand has offered advice, I suspect their more sophisticated government departments are well able to handle any problems that may arise.
It would seem to me our government should consult those who are having problems and even second thoughts, such as St. Kitts, Turks and Caicos , Barbados, to name a few, to determine the real problems that beset the introduction and operation of VAT small island nations.
The government has repeatedly said that “VAT administration is based on trust” which at once brings Bahamian audiences to outbursts of laughter with smiles on their faces..
In a nation where government always seems to be making sweeping pronouncements and statements that are usually untrue, how can we believe in such absurdities as trust.. Perhaps that is why police-state tactics are now on the government drawing boards.. Individual due process in law may become a thing of the past as we may find ourselves guilty until we can prove our innocence..
Time to be careful Bahamas, the sea is now rising and the waters are deep, and many of us poor souls don’t know how to swim.. We will drown in the excess burdens of VAT which will become an epidemic of civil unrest and dissatisfaction with our governance.. Our destiny as a nation is like a car running out of gas.. Soon we will be running on empty if we do not demand that government reject VAT and implement prudent policies to save our nation’s creditability.. Both courses of action will be painful but only one can save the Bahamas from economic self-destruction..
It just goes to show in a very strong way that they are really not for the people.I have known that for a long time but maybe just maybe more people will wake up to that fact now, I sure hope so.I am afraid for our country & afraid for the people, this VAT MUST BE STOPPED & STOPPED NOW ! Mr.Christie what is your problem, can you not see what the real problem is ? The real problem is you & your government & all those that came before you.You have all gotten us in this mess by hiring for political reasons & wasting hard earned taxpayer money, yes you did that over & over again & now you expect us to pay for YOUR waste & ABUSE of the system now that the chickens have come home to roost? Well I say go scratch because we are not going to take it anymore, lets close the whole country down & see what happens then.We need a country wide strike to demonstrate YOUR HIGH TAXES.Listen PM,you work for us & we are not happy with your performance at all.Who do you think you are trying to kill this country ? Seems to me like what you are doing is a communist move & has to be stopped. Why would you not tax the gambling houses,do they make great donations to your party ? Do you think that we the people can’t see through you ? Lets have a national lottery & that would solve so many problems, why not pray tell me ? Don’t give me that crap about a christian nation because we are not that anymore in my opinion, not with moves like the communist ones I think you are doing.
