Thinking about the Trayvon Martin (young black shot by an hispanic) and Marley Lion (young white shot by a black) cases.
While we are at it we should not forget all the young "brown" people being killed by "drones" authorised by the POTUS as one friend noted.
I understand the uneasiness though. It's horrible for anyone to die the way these two young men did, but we make caricatures and get sound bites that takes so much of these incidents out of context.
Emotionalism and symbolism over substance for political mileage mostly it seems.
Will it ever be solved??? Not until each of us agree to stop taking things out of context and offering sound bites as legitimate discussion in my not so humble opinion.
One thing is certain. If we all agree that the courts are the best way to settle things, we must accept the verdict unless an appeal is possible.
It's either that or revert to barbarism and I think we've passed that stage now?
I think the youth, Black Brown White, no matter,
Are reverting to the laws of the Jungle:
Kill, or be Killed.
Why?
The absence of Man made rules, The Rule of Law.
Rules that 90% of the Population used to abide by.
Civilizations with peace only exist where individuals have agreed not to endlessly be trying to Kill and pillage one another, and have developed respect for Property rights. Our Constitution is the outcome of the progress made by many societies and cultures, some of which did not make it!
The Rules/Laws derived from the “Intent” of the constitution evolved over 2000 + years of trial and error resulting in a framework of “personal protection, enforced by the State.
We no longer have that structure.
We no longer have that enforcement.
It is literally every man for himself.
Not all, but a significant enough percentage to be approaching a destabilizing point in time.
We now have 90% of the population doing what they damn well please.
Which is why talk of amending the Constitution makes no sense to me, because it is not broken, we are.
People. We do not observe the Damn thing.
Not to say it couldn’t use updating in certain respects.
Mind, if we suggested re-writing the Bible, there would be a hue and cry as never seen before,
but we really don’t live up to that “Guide to life” either do we.
Think on this:
All the “stiffened” penalties for committing certain crime if convicted, all the mandatory jail time stipulations, have not changed anything or become a deterrent have they?
What you have described Oracle is the failure of our state controlled society.. The family structure is failing, our schools are failing and our churches are failing.. Now our government leadership is failing as it has no constructive answers or even solutions to change the course of social decline.. With failed families, schools and churches, how can young people develop and cultivate a respect for human life and their own individual self-respect?? Computer games, rap music, movies and television are filled with vulgarity and violence.. They see violence and killing taking place in our streets and neighborhoods.. Abnormal behavior and disrespect has become commonplace as young men join the collective gang culture for self-preservation..
Individualism is lost as society in general declines to a lower order of group existence and survival.. What has been lost to most of our youth is spiritual faith as our churches are broken, growth through learning and obtaining knowledge as our schools are broken and the development of family values and ties as the family unit is broken..
Today, we are living in a broke society where there is little hope for moral and intellectual recovery as life for some often ends at the point of a gun.. To many of the less informed, guns are the fault, but guns don’t kill only those that have no respect for human life kill.. This is indicative of the social void we face as a nation, but as you point out Oracle, no one seems to really care.. We have become a “Can’t be Bothered Society” with little feeling of shame for what we have become as a nation..
It is really maddening to think it should really be so obvious but yet is so completely ignored with 90% of the population absolving themselves of any responsibility whatsoever.
The “sheltering” under this political party or that, the self administered absolution of debt, commitment, personal responsibility,
The innate ability of again, 90% of us to finger point in the opposite direction at any hint a finger is pointing at you!
The failure is so completely all inclusive as to indicate we are nearing the end of a very short self woven rope.
