Wait and see

TearSadnessby Edward Hutcheson

If history is a template, it is not advisable for the nation to expect any change in the Prime Minister’s modus operandi, now that the Constitutional Commission has clarified what Mr.Christie could have done on the gambling issue. The painful parts for the Bahamian public  would be the amount of time wasted, the amount of money wasted and inability of a “caring Prime Minister” to make a decision. Even more painful is the dumping of a decision on the Bahamian public, a decision that Mr.Christie  could have expedited by repealing Section 50 in the Act. The Chairman described  this indecisive behavior ( my words)  as “passing the buck”.

Does Mr.Christie and his government understand that this anniversary period that we are in will come under greater scrutiny than any other and the “accomplishments” will be separated and clearly delineated as to who did what? Up to now he has placed too much weight on his ability to tell a story devoid of substantial physical components that would support his utterings.

As a nation we will have to admit that the Progressive Liberal Party’s philosophical views have been the template for much of our progress but there has not been much done beyond that; especially in the equipping aspect.  Where are the Bahamians in the process or processes? Are we being relegated to being, “wood choppers and water toters” ( security guards and part time workers)?

We seem to have a problem with hard choices and national responsibility, but, out of despair we would elect an Pindling or Ingraham to get us on the road or back on it, but staying on that road and fully embracing our national responsibility is the hurdle we keep tripping over, and our leaders are doing most of the tripping. I would like to predict that at the rate this administration is going we are going to be doing the “back on the road” thing in short order, whether it will be done externally or internally with the present administration will be the question.  The bold admission by the Chairman  may be an indication  that there are some things under consideration by the  Progressive Liberal Party; but as always we will have to wait and see.
