Politicians and consistency. Paradoxical?

ConsistentThis last week has been a roller coaster of inconsistency from politicians.

First, the long awaited release of the NIB "forensic" audit has still not happened.

Second, the PLP and FNM are accusing each other of political malfeasance over the PLP's proposed gambling Bill, and,

Third, a PLP businessman says the work permit debate is "fueled by inconsistency" by the other side. Not by him of course.

If these men were not holding the fate of us all in their hands these stories would be hilarious. But they're not funny.

The only thing about either side of these discussions is their remarkable inconsistency. However, the PLP Government has the responsibility to get these issues resolved so the country might start to move forward out of the current malaise caused by their inconsistencies.

The fact is, it does not matter if the opposition FNM party is inconsistent at this point. That matters when the next General Elections take place and the voters can decide their fate.

The naked truth is the PLP are losing credibility day by day on these three issues alone.

In relation to the NIB matter, how can auditors not share information with the person being "audited"? This is a remarkable inconsistency.

With regard to the gaming issue. Both political parties have been all over the map on this one, with each trying to out do the other. Just get on with legalising it!

Finally, with the Atlantis work permit issue, the PLP were out of order by picking a person up that is legally entitled to be here under the terms of our laws. Simple.

No amount of speechifying will change the facts in these three cases alone.

Government mismanagement is the source of the confusion. And supporters of both political parties are not innocent bystanders either, we allow our false beliefs in the politicians we support to get in the way of sensible public policies.

So yes, politics is rife with inconsistencies. The big question is, why do we allow it?

I move that politicians and many political supporters should wear name badges shown in the graphic above; Hi, I'm a Politician and I'm Consistently Inconsistent.

Can we trust our government anymore?? You can ask this question about the United States, the Bahamas and even the United Kingdom.. For that matter the question may be asked of any government in this world..
Plato’s Republic tried to define the perfect society.. Sir Thomas More’s Utopia gave us radical egalitarianism.. Thomas Hobbs in his classic the Leviathan founded the all-powerful state.. And Karl Marx’s Communist Manifesto emphasized class struggle.. All four men were seeking a perfect, utopian government and society.. All met with failure as such a perfect existence does not and has never existed..
The underlying conclusions of these political theorists was that there is no such thing as a perfect or enlightened government.. Governments are made up of men who will seek power no matter what the costs.. As Marx so boldly said “the ends justify the means..” Today governments lie, cover-up and will mislead the public as they seek to expand political power and control over the people they rule.. Public silence is only an expression of approval as more power is taken by the politicians.. This explains perhaps why the United States is going down the road to economic failure with our Bahamas right behind..
Its time for the voices of liberty and freedom to speak out before its to late.. Ask any Cuban or Venezuelan what it means to lose freedom and live under totalitarian rule.. It could happen anywhere, even here..

Governments can never be trusted, in part the rational of the U.S. founding fathers,
trust the documents created to govern, and the principals outlined therein.
It is the one thing that originally set the U.S. apart.
    Abandoned of course,
easier to hold with people in power than with principals, especially here in the Bahamas.
again, evidenced by the “personalities” some of us worship or follow blindly.
Mankind has been this road before, and it has never ended well,
but has ended various societies and empires many times before.
Foolhardy to think we are different or immune to greed and avarice.

Ominous, ALL men are greedy for that is part of their human nature as mankind seeks to rationalize resources and maximize wealth under their control.. The maximization of resources is really not such a bad thing, but some men and today many men extend human greed into a realm of absolute corruption.. Corruption is often mistaken for human greed by those that cannot rationalize the fundamental differences.. All men are greedy but NOT all men are corrupt..
Ever wonder why all politicians in America, the Bahamas and the rest of the world are always wealthy?? Don’t give much thought to it for the answer is over zestful greed that turns into outright corruption.. Better get use to it as corruption has become the hallmark of the politicians that are elected into government by the people..
One wonders whether democracy always leads to corruption and authoritarian government?? For that answer try reading the four political theorists cited above and you may find your answer.. Their writings cover a time span of over three thousand years, and if they were alive today they would soon realize that nothing has really changed in how mankind attempts to govern itself..
