The spectre of Mr. Hubert Ingraham (FNM) former Prime Minister must haunt some PLP members of parliament in their sleep.
It's almost like they have no original ideas for advancing the country.
For example, Mrs. Allyson Maynard Gibson (PLP) Senator says "…what her party did not support was the “flawed process” and poorly drafted, unclear legislation that the then FNM government was trying to push through." More…
Meanwhile they are now attempting to provide equal rights for Bahamian women and their spouses. The same thing Mr. Ingraham and his party attempted to do in 2002.
She then adds another couple twists:
- "it was the view of constitutional experts that the issue would might have to be resolved by the courts" back then".
- "when Bahamians go to vote for or against a referendum every single one of us should be able to understand what we are voting for, we should be able to pick up that legislation and read it and understand it ourselves, we should not need the courts to tell us what it means,”
As pointed out here… the 2002 Constitutional Amendment proposals were:
- the removal of gender discrimination from the constitution
- the creation of a national commission to monitor the standards of teachers
- the creation of an independent parliamentary commissioner
- the creation of an independent election boundaries commission
- the increase of the retirement ages of judges from 60 to 65 (or 68 to 72 for appellate judges)
Either Mrs. Maynard-Gibson is suggesting that Bahamians are dumb or is now looking for a way to weasel out of looking like she and her party have double standards, hence they must blame it all on a retired Prime Minister.
Come on Mrs. Maynard-Gibson, your party has the majority of seats in parliament that means you can get on with governing. Frankly continuing to blame Mr. Ingraham makes you guys look immature and indecisive. Just get on with it if it is the right thing to do.
Rick: The PLP are just like the Demoncrats and President Obama.
Democrats blame George Bush.
PLP blames Hubert Ingraham.
Total incompetence on both of them.
Well stated GQ, but it is not a question of incompetence.. It is a deliberate text book strategy used by the social progressive movement to distort the reality of failed policies both past and present..
The PLP know that they have no meaningful solutions or workable economic policies to fix the economic mess that the Bahamas today finds itself in.. So just like Obama they blame the past administration for everything that is wrong and WILL go wrong in the future.. The only thing that really counts to the ruling political elite is to maintain political power at all costs over a people that fail to understand the political changes and dangers that confront them.. To “look back in Anger” is only a tactic of the progressives to divert and distract the electorate’s attention from the reality and truth of failed government policies which significantly impact the future destiny of the country.. Both the United States and the Bahamas are on the same political track to authoritarian rule and centralized economic planning..
Very well said Tradewinds, totally agree with your comments.
