A fitting tribute for Mr. Hubert Ingraham from Mrs. Anita Bernard

Mrs. Bernard is another wonderful Bahamian and she offers her personal insights in the following letter to the editor entitled, Ingraham Was An Inspirational Leader.

I suspect both Mr. Ingraham and Mrs. Bernard will be missed.

    Mrs. Bernard has shown by her letter to be the most compelling argument for government on assuming power to regulate all senior civil servants to the role of reading newspaper for the five years that they have to advance their policies. She has distinguish herself, by her own words of not being able to be apolitical, (and yet she continued to serve.). I salute Mrs. Bernard, you are the cause of what is the mess that we have to endure in the civil/uncivil service.

    Perhaps the Minute sent by PS Garroway on May 18 to senior staff at the Ministry of Education should have been sent to her misguided collegue who after all of her many years in the service never comprehended General Orders. If you are sitting in a Tenders board meeting and has slept the whole way true, should they hold you accountable for the decision of the board? Albatross.

    Gee, I thought the Civil Service was a mess because of the British? Now it’s because of Mrs. Bernard.
    Are you not actively involved in offering a “political” opinion? You are not apolitical.
    By the way, Mrs. Bernard is retired so can say whatever she likes.
    Your sarcasm is a bit puerile. Surely you can do a better job at it?

    You dismiss Mrs. Bernard for not being apolitical and then use Mrs. Garroway as an example?
    At least you should be consistent with your arguments.

    I’m not or have never been a fan of those who would seek to have others believe that they should obey the rule of the road/general orders while doing what they deem to be expediend. However, Mrs. Garroway on her departure from office caused to be publish a list of guide lines for civil servants to follow. God only knows what could have been accomplished between 2002 and 2007 if the most senior members of the civil service would have adhered to those guides.

    So you should not obey rules, but senior civil servants should?
    Again, that’s very inconsistent.
    I think the biggest problem in the civil service is people believe they have tenure for life once employed.
    In other words, if one cannot lose a government job, what incentive is there to do better?
