Is our failure to educate our children properly immoral?

Rick Lowe

Martin Stephen in Britain thinks it is and I tend to agree.

His comment came about after parents were offered an option of free schooling for their children and the teachers union objected on the grounds it was immoral to offer parents free schooling for their children in an economic slump.

Well go figure.

Dr. Stephen, a former High Master in Britain wrote a couple newspaper columns on the subject (go here… & here…) and if you read them I think you will agree with him as well.

I think we do Bahamian children an injustice when we continue to fail them and put them out into the work force without basic skills like reading, writing and arithmetic. This is why I keep hoping that our government will consider vouchers or the like to give the less fortunate an opportunity to get their kids out of the public system if they want to. Maybe it's against all common sense that I do so, but I can't help it.

So yes, I think it is immoral that we fail to properly educate our kids.

The fault dear Rick is not in our children but in the so called parents that raise them.. The advancement of positive attitudes and character is lacking in the development of our young children.. Today television has far more influence on the development and growth of our children than family and parents.. No wonder our children lack self-esteem and a sense of self-respect..
