The Nassau Guardian ran another story recently about the PLP and their concern about the Kerzner International agreement with Brookefield Asset Management.
Beside asking the Government to release the details of a private arrangement the PLP's deputy leader, Brave Davis worries that "job security at the Atlantis properties is tied to revenue performance".
Well how novel. Is revenue performance/profitability something new?
Try as I might to be objective to some in the political class, statements like this reassures me that they take us for idiots!
Of course in order for jobs to be secure, a business needs to be profitable.
How can we take people seriously when they say stuff like this?
Sounds like the PLP believe that Atlantis should be run like Bahamasair, ZNS, BEC.. Haven’t they learn anything from the failures of the Bahamas Hotel Corporation?? Guess not.. As you said Rick, How can we take these politicians seriously?? They have no concept of economic reality when it comes to running a profitable business enterprise.. Or that employment (marginal product of labor)is tied directly to maintaining and increasing profitability..
I thought that was sadly hilarious when I saw it as the headline as the Guardian the other day as well. I mean is it suppose to be a secret that if revenues in any business is not up to projected targets that jobs will be cut and if revenues grow chances are jobs will increase. Yes, tradewinds apparently they do think that Atlantis should be run like ZNS, BEC, Bahamasair, Water and Sewage, where jobs should be kept and added with no regard to profitability. But more than likely it’s just dishonest politricking!
I guess businesses need to be profitable in order for them to give good compensation for their employees, this is one of the reasons why some jobs aren’t that secure.
The government & politicians, what a bunch of idiots.
