Pessimistic for the right reasons?

Rick Lowe

As I get older I've become bored with the so called political "debate" as pointed out yesterday, and I do not have patience any more to argue with people about individuals in the race to run the government. Please note I said run the government as the political class does not run the country as so many of us are prone to say.

But I digress.

Simply put, I choose to vote for a political party based on:

  1. That offer the best public policy choices.
  2. That are less corrupt.
  3. That will be less Socialist, and I've added in recent years,
  4. Those that say they want less government, regulations and bureaucracy not more.

There are other reasons but the ones listed here are the most important for this discussion.

No longer do I get all riled up about personalities.

As Sandy Ikeda points out in The Freeman, in his recent article Leaking Left and Right:

"When what you’re seeking through politics is simply “more,” there’s no principled way to say when enough is enough.  Through such leaks we lose our liberty, not only to the left but just as surely to the right."

In other words it really does not matter what colour the flag of the political grouping here  at home is, they will all take us down the statist road. We will just get there sooner with some than others.

I'm pessimistic yes, but the track record is on my side so far.
